During my grad school days, I was living out of my Honda Civic and spending so much time on campus that I became friends with the groundskeeper, Gus Green. One day, Gus gave me a stack of simple black frames, holding onto them for years unsure of their purpose—until now.

This body of work consists of 15 years of my proprietary brush drawings—a monochromatic combination of wet and dry mediums on semi translucent drafting film, using both sides to create a layered effect.

Gus’ Chop Shop signifies my intentional departure from this style. This short retrospective invigorates new life into a series of work that is chopped, cropped, and reimagined to the heart of the work, the part that matters the most to me.
